How unnu duh? Long time mi nuh write home. A hope you alright even under the circumstances. Mi dear, mi have to shake my head the other day when I was watching the news. I was amazed at what I saw.
As you know everything is on camera nowadays (that’s another story, lol). Anyway, when mi look, me see this man crossing the streets all unconcern, all of a sudden there comes this car from nowhere at bird-speed; Bups! It lick down the man and speed away. The man kincat bout two times inna de road and land pon him back. However, you know the most unbelievable part?….Jamaica?!! The people them mek the man lay down in the middle of the street inna agony fe bout a good 15mins or more—no one called the police, ambulance or anything?!! Not even pull him out of the middle of the road. Lucky for him this police car that was on its way to another scene and so happen to be passing by, saw the him and decided to help
It is amazing as to how the people are insensitive by a sight like that. How can human beings become so numb? Is it because there is so much reality on TV, that they don’t know if they are being “punk’d” or they are caught up in the middle of another soon-to-be-released reality-show? Or is it the way their system is set up, where you can be sued at the drop of a hat? Just like the thief that broke into a woman’s house fell on a knife and turn around and sue the woman for thousands of dollars!! I am hoping, as bad as it seems, that the reason no one dared to care, was that they were afraid that if they held him the wrong way of such, then they would be liable if anything goes wrong, because as you know the first rule of any emergency is to protect yourself before others. But is this really the way to live? I prayed it was not because of the color of his skin why he was allowed to stay there on the side of the road like ‘road-kill’ without anybody a “fart pon him.” Yeah you guess it, he was black–how unnu know?
It mek me look back pon you Jamaica. Eh? Nuh care how we bad; Nuh matter how we “nuh kin teeth,” eh? You naaw see somebody, a human being get lick down and don’t try help him. It doesn’t matter who him is or where him come from, even if we havfe put him on a handcart and wheel him to Public. On top of the, the road a get block long time –cause it’s going to draw crowd. Somebody a guh offer some home remedy fe the lick wey him get and ting. Even if we nuh know CPR or Emergency practice ……..before suh we at least a pull him out of the road, even if you have a man a dip inna him pocket lol, (we havfe tek bad ting mek joke). All I am saying is Jamaica, nuh care how we bad, we not going to see something like that happen and don’t try to help.
Ahh Bowy! Mi mind run back on the joke of the man that got hit down. When the crowd gathered to help, someone suggest that they give him sweet sugar and wata fe de lick wey him get. All of a sudden the same man that lay half dying lift up him head and say “unnu…. bring …piece a ……..dry bread……. wid it too” LOL.
Anyway Jamaica a gwaan, mi got pot pon fiyah. I will talk to you soon.
Tek care!
Your Daughter.
